"After recording our
first 3 singles and many of original demos at the
home studio of family friend and music teacher,
Miller Goodman, my brothers and I built a studio in
the basement of our own home. We no longer own
the house at 3171, but if the studio structure is still
standing, on the original cement walls behind them
are posters of music artists collected during our childhood,
including Chicago, John Lennon, Linda Ronstadt, and others.
At Studio 3171 we
recorded several demos and some of the material that
was to end up on The White Album (a.k.a. Caruso EP).
My brother Joe had
taken production and
engineering classes at Detroit's Superdisk (now "The Disk.)"
This gave him tremendous skills for recording and
producing, but it also allowed him to help us to
develop our live band sound. |

Throughout most of this
time, my brothers and I were still in high school
and college. When we had saved up enough money
to pay for professional studio sessions (on top of
band costs and college tuition), we recorded our
fourth single, 'Someday' / 'Quit Your Foolin'' at Superdisk in Detroit. A short time later, we
recorded our 5th single, 'She's in Love With You' /
'Princess,' at Studio A in Dearborn Heights, MI.
Between the Studio A tracks and the home studio
tracks, we felt we had enough strong material to put
out our first EP. On the cassette, we included
one of the Superdisk tracks, 'Someday,' so that
people would have an incentive to buy both the vinyl
album and the cassette."

"'Dance
it Up' was my first attempt at writing a 'hit song.' It
was written while sitting through a Political Science
lecture at Wayne State University—go figure. My lead
vocal takes didn’t pass muster, so Dave “took the wheel.”

Excerpts from
'On the Record'
"Anybody who
has seen Caruso, the rock band composed of
the four Brothers who hail from Trenton,
knows that the band has an electric stage
performance and more talent than most local
bands (or national bands).
The Carusos
manage, produce, write and perform all of
their music, and taking this into
consideration, the Caruso EP is a laudable
effort. The two standout songs are
'Modern Girl,' a danceable tune, and
'Princess,' a very beautiful ballad that
shows off the pleasing vocal harmonies and
effective mood-setting keyboard work by Dave
Caruso, who also serves as lead vocalist."
