Raves for "Elizabeth Parker"
"Elvis Costello Alert!
Dave Caruso is an independent alternative-pop songwriter from Trenton,
Michigan. This is an effort that's dated 2004 but we've only just
become aware of it - and are we glad we did.
Here's a guy that knows his way
around a pop song, and he's not afraid to flaunt it! He delivers
five Brill Building-esque pop nuggets (and a demo of the title track)
with relative ease. Does this guy even break a sweat when he
writes these kind of gems?"

"Great
EP for pure pop fans! There's six songs here but despite the
healthy helping of music, I still wanted more by the end - such is the
EP format but the material here is awesome! Payoff is
big if you are a fan of early Costello, some Squeeze and add a dash of
Joe
Jackson and later-era The Spongetones. Dave Caruso explores
piano-driven Joel-esque balladry elsewhere - and it works!
Generally, I'm not a fan of that as the song quality rarely can approach
the high expectations but the music here hints at a special talent for
pop fans and yields the hope that more will follow soon."

"Dave has been performing for
over 30 years with his band CARUSO during the 80's and with this more
recent EP he gets to strut his solo stuff. He sounds similar to
Cliff Hillis, Michael Carpenter and Mark Bacino, with sunny, chiming
guitar melodies that are instantly catchy and accessible. The songcraft is top notch, a perfect example is the
Elvis Costello sounding
title track Elizabeth Parker. The next gem is I Can't Be On
Time, a finely tuned slice of 80's styled power pop. the bossa nova
ballad If I Died Today and strong guitar riffs of Letter To My Ex
round out the album. If you enjoy any of the artists above, then
this is excellent addition to your music collection. I would hope
Dave will continue to record and a full length is on the way soon.
Highly Recommended!"

"For over half a decade,
Dave Caruso's Elizabeth Parker remained outside the ears of the
world. Composed in 2004, the six-song EP may not have had
the proper effect at the time of its original release. And now
it emerges strong and powerful while remaining gentle and lovable in
the hands of this veteran singer-composer from Trenton, Michigan
and former leader of the band, CARUSO."
"Elizabeth Parker opens the EP sounding like
a power pop anthem -- one that could easily be part of the
discography of Elvis Costello. The energetic and lovely
I Can't
Be On Time follows the classic line of Mr. Costello and
invites the audience to repeat the refrain. If I Died
Today brings a soft bossa nova beat and Letter To My Ex
is a beat-smart balance of guitars whose sound refers to the New
Yorker Mark Bacino.
The
beautiful I'm Not Finished Yet is a pop ballad in the best
style of Elton John. Closing the disc is a demo version of
Elizabeth Parker. That song is the sound
representation of the EP's cover illustration: an island of
vivid colors amidst the sea of black and monotonous pop music
today."

"This EP from Michigan's
Dave
Caruso bears a 2004 copyright, but only recently emerged on
CD
Baby and the digital download outlets, so I seriously doubt that
more than a handful of AbPow readers have heard of it. Now's the
time to remedy that, as Caruso demonstrates pop craft of a high
order here. The title track is the standout, a jangly treat that
would have fit it perfectly on The Red Button's 2007
album of the year. I Can't Be on Time is no slouch either, 2:13 of
Michael Carpenter-esque power pop, and Letter to My Ex follows
in the same vein. A couple of demos (including a version of
Elizabeth Parker that recalls Elvis C's Veronica) round out
the EP. I'm going to have to make a judgment call on whether
this one qualifies for the 2009 EP list, because on merit alone
it's a gimme."

"Elizabeth
Parker is a wonderfully written song. It takes me
back to when I was 18. The time when my
memories of riding shotgun in my Dad's Corvette conflicted
with wanting to get out on my own. Everyone has an
Elizabeth Parker in their lives. This song is amazing."

"We both thought Elizabeth Parker
sounded really good - it brightened up a dull Tuesday morning.
It was so strange to hear Liz's name being sung -- she was very
amused and thanks you very much. We will give it any
publicity we can with full credit. Thank you from us
both."

Elizabeth Parker. Wow was that
cool, I have never been narrated through a process like
that before. Your gift is truly amazing!"

"Elizabeth Parker is
wonderful. I assumed it would be really poppy but there’s
an earthy quality in your voice that really evens it out.
Bottom line -- it sounds great. Can’t wait to hear the
rest of your songs. If you could see my hand – I’m giving
you the 'rock-on' signal!"

a lot of great memories! However, I am enjoying your new
