The White Album (1986)
* Produced by Eric Morgeson
at Studio A in Dearborn Heights, MI
** Produced by Fred Munch and Caruso
at SuperDisc (The Disc) in Detroit, MI
*** Produced by Joe Caruso
at Mick & Toot's in Trenton, MI

"The two standout songs are 'Modern Girl,' a danceable tune, and 'Princess,' a very beautiful ballad that shows off the pleasing vocal harmonies and effective mood-setting keyboard work by Dave Caruso, who also serves as lead vocalist."

Mellus Newspapers

"Caruso has all the makings of a great pop band... The beat on 'London,' the first number on the disc and the one which has received the most air play on radio, is a fast-paced, enjoyable morsel of pop music.  It's accented with a gashing guitar and vibrant vocals...  'Young and Tender' is the strongest song on the EP... Musically, the Carusos have their house in order. Especially noteworthy are [Bradley Davenport's] guitar and Rob Caruso's drumming.  The vocals are excellent."

Detroit Free Press
On "In the Face"

"Hey Dave!  Cheap Trick's 'Surrender' came up on my iPod this AM while I was riding the bike, and for a split second, I thought it was Modern Girl... which reminded me -- I must add that [CARUSO] Anthology CD to my playlists."

"I remember going to Jaggers in Waterford, Michigan.  I enjoyed your music so much that I wore out the Cassette and my Ex wife kept the album"

"'London leaves me undone, oh yeah!'  I still have the vinyl LP of that I purchased from Harmony House!  And I ordered the CD from you around 2000.  Excellent stuff!"

"Just wanted to let you know, I still have a 45 of your song 'Someday.'  I still love that song!  Thanks for the memories!  Lincoln Park High School - Class of '85."

"I used to come to watch Caruso with my sister Joanne and our friend Pat.  I was very happy to find you enjoying success.  Would you believe I still have my cassette with YYY, Princess, Dance It Up, Someday, She's In Love With You, Emerald City & Modern Girl on it.  Listening to those songs brings back many memories of good times watching you guys play.  When are you coming to Phoenix?  I'll do my best to be in the audience when you do."

Sue
Phoenix, AZ

"Dave, I went to Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, MO back in the 80's.  I wore your cassettes out.  I played them over and over.  Emerald City was always my favorite.  It had no special meaning to me then, it was just a great song.

So here I sit, 22 years later.  I've been friends with a wonderful woman for about a year and a half, and it has become clear that we are soul mates.  I know it sounds cliché, but really, I am completely and unconditionally in love with her.  Lately, we have been talking about marriage, and one night this week she had a dream that the wedding ring was an emerald eternity band.  She said in the dream, I told her I chose it because it reminded me of her eyes.  She has the most beautiful and mesmerizing green eyes I have ever seen, and I am absolutely helpless and melt when I stare into them.

So as I was laying here daydreaming about the ring, her eyes, and our future, like a brick to the head, Emerald City comes to mind.  Almost 23 years later, Emerald City now has a deep and incredible meaning to me.  I am ordering the anthology CD because my amazing green eyed gift just HAS to listen to Emerald City with me.  Thank you for your gift to us, it's a beautiful song."

"Just wanted to let you know... Back in '86 CARUSO played at Kip's West in Toledo, OH.  I got to see that performance and was hugely impressed.  I bought The White Album then and truly enjoyed listening time & time again.  Unfortunately I loaned it to someone who never returned it and I've been chasing it ever since. I'm so happy to see that I can finally replace it!  And I'm interested in hearing what you've done since so I will be ordering your Elizabeth Parker CD!  I've missed hearing Emerald City, She's In Love With You and YYY.  They play in the back of my mind frequently but only in pieces.  Finally I can hear them once again."

"A fresh, unique piece of pop-rock music... the album reveals the band's talent for hitting the top 40 market... quite remarkable is the highly polished sound of the digitally mastered EP. "

"Features four songs written by drummer Rob Caruso.  The titles are indicative of the pop/rock boy-loses-girl genre but in the end, the hero finds his own identity and says, 'Hey, I can live without you.'"

The Story Behind The Music
Caruso: The Albums, 1986 - 1989

"In July 2003, two of my brothers and I played a reunion concert billed as CARUSO and surprised everyone, especially ourselves, by selling out the local venue.  It wasn't that the place was so large, it's just that we hadn't played a concert as CARUSO for over 10 years.  Traditionally we had been very strong on merchandising, but that night, for the first time in the band's history, we had very little music merchandise to sell."

"The three albums we had made in the late 1980s had been out of print for several years.  The first two albums, The White Album and In the Face, were released only on vinyl and cassette.  CARUSO's last album, I Love You...And Other Stories, was released exclusively on cassette.  None of the albums had originally appeared on CD.  With the buzz surrounding the reunion, and the amount of people still approaching me every week to tell me how much our music had meant to them, the time seemed right for a CD anthology."

"In the years since our last album, I had already made CDs of many of our recordings, including unreleased tracks, as Christmas gifts for my brothers.  For all of the songs on the last two albums, digital masters were available.  We had to use analog source tape for some of the live and bonus tracks."

"Whether you're new to CARUSO or you've been a fan for years, I hope you'll enjoy this music collection."

"Hi, Dave.  I DJ power pop music in Osaka-city in Japan.  I love power pop.  I purchased an LP of CARUSO on eBay and now I'm crazy about CARUSO.  I researched you on the Internet and found your homepage, I was impressed.  I want to spread more CARUSO in Japan.  I want to know CARUSO more.  'DANCE IT UP' is great music!"

Yoshio
Osaka, Japan

"Young and Tender" shows Dave's talent, not only as a fantastic singer/songwriter but also as a multi-talented musician and a natural performer.  The fantastically written and catchy song tells of the joys and hardships of growing older.  Not only does the song deliver a very strong and uplifting message, but the lyrics and musical composition of this song will make it an instant favorite for anyone who has the pleasure of hearing it."

"Dave: I just received my copy of Caruso The Albums. I actually have all the albums/tapes, just no way to play them anymore. Thanks for re-releasing the music that was a big part of the soundtrack of my high school and college days."

Andy
Redford Twp, MI

"Dave: I had forgotten you sang & wrote so many original songs…I do like the way you interlaced the slow songs with the  dance tunes on the anthology CD."

Jackie

"I was a big fan of yours after I saw you open for Corey Hart and then I saw you again at Central Michigan University.  I'd like to order your CD."

"Going back to the summer 1986, my friend Angie and I saw The Caruso Brothers at our local summer music festival, Summerfest, here in Milwaukee Wisconsin.  We fell in love with the band and the music, bought the album and even got autographs from you and your brothers.  Needless to say, 18 years later the album has somehow gotten lost in the midst of moving a few times over the years.

Doing a search on Google, I ran across your website and also saw that you had released a CD entitled, Caruso: The Albums, 1986 -1989, which included the White Album that we purchased back in 1986.  I noticed that you were selling this CD at your live performances and on the web.  Now that Angie and I have been reminiscing about that summer at Summerfest, I thought it would only be fitting that we had the music too.  A HUGE THANKS for entertaining us here in Milwaukee 18 years ago!"

"Dave: I used to come see you and your brothers a ton in the late 80's at Jaggers in Waterford.  I used to have In the Face, but wore the cassette out.  Years later I am trying to find copies of it and stumbled across a website that mentioned your anthology CD.  Just wanted to let you know my check was sent today.  I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR THOSE SONGS AGAIN... especially London and Young & Tender.   One question:  any odds of getting the CD liner notes autographed?

"The CDs are great... brought back a lot of memories.  The CARUSO CD was exactly what I was looking for.  I remember back in the day having a taped copy of the first tape.  I remember coming home on leave once from the Navy and running into Harmony House and picking up the One of These Days cassingle (you know we're old when we remember cassingles).  By the way, LOVE your live version of Emerald City that is on the website.  Do you perform many of the older songs in your shows now?  Guess I'll have to show up and find out..."

Todd
Brighton, MI

"I just stumbled upon your site and would like to join your mailing list.  I am also very excited to get the In the Face songs on CD after having only a beat-up tape copy for many years (taped from an LP, which I think I got at the Harmony House on Woodward in Royal Oak eons ago!)"

Mary
Ann Arbor, MI

"We are 1986 Caruso groupies where you played Ruby Tuesdays in Springfield, Ohio.  We bought 2 of your white albums.  One is autographed and the other has never been opened.  (We bought 2 in case we wore one out.)  We also have somewhere tucked away, a few Miller Music CARUSO pins and advertisements.  Now we can put the record player away since we'll have your anthology CD.  We were in our 20s and your music was awesome.  We are almost 50 and your music is still awesome.  Can't wait to receive the CD, just in time for Valentines Day."

Linda & Patrick
Springfield, OH

"I'm a fan from way back in the late 1980's - when Al ([Allan Liggett] from the Stingrays) was in the band.  Are there any upcoming shows for the band?  I'm looking forward to getting the CD -- my tapes are worn out!  Please put me on your mailing list.  Does Mike appear when you guys have your reunion concerts?"

"Wow, what a blast from the past!!   I recently purchased a record player (vintage style!!) and found a few CARUSO records and have been playing them!  Funny after all these years I still remember the words!   Anyway I was feeling nostalgic and thought I would see if any info was available online.  Just got done browsing your home page.  You guys used to play at my high school (Woodhaven) and I remember watching you in the early 80's playing at Trenton Theater.  Thought I would send you a quick note to say hi, and it's nice to hear the tunes again."

Anne
Woodhaven, MI

"Caruso performed at Ruby Tuesday's in Springfield, Ohio in 1986.  I bought your CD then and each one of you signed it.  I still have the CD case and your autographs but sometime in the last 12 years my children shared your wonderful music with their friends and I never got my CD back.

I have been in the Air Force since late 1986 and stop home every time I move to a new location (every 1 1/2 to  years).  I currently live in Guam and I'm coming home in August.  You could send it to my sister's home or we could take a trip up to purchase them.  My sister enjoys your music as much as I do.

May I buy the two CDs you were making available at your 17 July concert since I can not once again attend due to my military commitment.  I would love to surprise my sister with this gift sometime before 1 Sep 04 before I leave for my new base in Germany."

"WOW!  Graduated 1986 from Woodhaven High and I remember all the girls being big fans and buying your 45’s.  We would get together to go to the Trenton Fair [The Trenton Midsummer Festival] every year to see The Caruso Brothers play.  We all had our favorites.  My best friend Deanie was madly in love with you, while I had a crush on Joe (he was so dreamy).  I don’t even know how I came upon your website but I can’t tell you how happy it made me.  I’m so glad to hear that you’re still singing!  I couldn’t remember the names of the songs I loved so much.. but as soon as 'Someday' started playing I remembered every word!

Wishing you and your family the best.  I’ll keep checking the website to see where you’re playing.  I’ll get the gang together (and hope that you’ll sing Someday along with your more recent songs).  Thank you!"
