On January 13th, 2011, Dave was invited back to Boyd Arthurs Middle School to speak with Mr. Kopera's Music Composition students. Dave used his song, "Elizabeth Parker" to talk about the inspiration, craft, arrangement and recording of original music. Elizabeth Parker's many references to the Downriver area and Trenton helped personalize the material for the students. Dave played parts of the song live to demonstrate how the song sounded in different stages of writing, then he played the finished recording. Dave brought a handout to give the students ideas for musical and lyrical inspiration. Because Elizabeth Parker was an exercise in personification, Dave gave Mr. Kopera's students an assignment, just for fun: to write a song about an inanimate object for which they have strong feelings but to personify that object refer to it only as "you" in the lyric. The class ended with a short Q&A session.
