Dave Caruso's Music Biography

Beginnings
Dave Caruso is an independent alternative-pop songwriter from Trenton, Michigan.  His influences include: Elvis Costello, Neil Finn, Elton John, Del Amitri, Ben Folds, Boz Scaggs, Glenn Tilbrook, Eric Carmen, Joe Jackson, Emily Saliers and Ron Sexsmith.   For over 30 years, armed with keyboard, guitar, bass and drums, Dave has performed for more than 3,800 audiences in 24 states and Canada.

 

CARUSO Band
Dave’s career began as the primary songwriter and front man fueling the power pop band “CARUSO,” which featured Dave and his three brothers, Mike, Joe and Rob.  Under Dave’s musical direction, the band recorded 2 albums and 6 singles, including "The White Album" and “In the Face.”  On the strength of their studio recordings and their versatile live performances, they earned a national spot for two consecutive years as one of sixteen bands in the prestigious Miller Rock Network, sponsored by The Miller Brewing Company.  Through the Miller sponsorship, they soon landed tracks on two nationally released RCA Records compilation albums.  CARUSO's single, “London,” appeared on the playlists of college radio stations all across the Midwest.

 

Awards & Accomplishments
They joined the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA), and in no time CARUSO was nominated—not once, but twice—for NACA’s Contemporary Music Award, a distinction they shared with The Bangles, Huey Lewis and the News, The Police, and Journey.  CARUSO opened for such artists as Joan Jett, UB40, Burton Cummings, John Cafferty, and Corey Hart.
 
Dave Caruso also won several awards for national achievement in original songwriting, including top prizes from the American Music Conference and Songwriter International.  Dave has held several songwriting clinics for schools and organizations.

 

Piano Wars!

In 2001, Dave began working as a dueling pianist under his company name, "Piano Wars!"  As Entertainment Director for Pub 13 in Ypsilanti, MI, Dave led the entertainment team during the year the club was voted "Best Piano Bar" by Real Detroit Weekly Dave did it again a few years later for  Rum Runners Mishawaka, helping them win the South Bend Tribune's Reader's Choice Award for Best Live Entertainment Club / BarPiano Wars! has also raised tens of thousands of dollars for its clients at fund-raising events across the mid-western and eastern U.S.

 

Songwriting & Recording

ave continues to write and record original music with brains and a heartbeat.  His Elizabeth Parker CD has received glowing reviews from AbsolutePowerPop.com and PowerPopStation.com, among others.  Dave appears regularly in original music concerts and organizes nearly-annual reunion shows with the CARUSO band.
