For one night only, an all-star, Detroit band line-up donated their time and musical talents to honor of their friend, Dan Drotar, who has been fighting a tough battle with head and neck cancer.

Dan, a retired Ford engineer, is a man of many other talents, evidenced by his web marketing and DJ skills.  But as a fan of local music, he became friends over the years with some of the top musicians and bands in the Detroit area.

To support Dan and give him strength to face his next round of treatments, several of these bands threw a night-long music party.  Four of the bands reunited especially for this show.  Our emcee, comedian Mark Knope, also generously donated his time.  Over $2,000 was raised for U of M Radiation Oncology Research Fund.

Band Lineup:

City Lights (1st show in 25 yrs)
The Strait
The Look
The Pulse
Skeleton Crew (1st show since 1996)
50 Amp Fuse
Robb Roy (1st show since 2004)
CARUSO (1st 4-bro show in 15 yrs)
Jam Session

“WOW what a great night!  Thanks for all who made it out for such a great cause and for a great friend.  I'm still feeling the high from the show.  Dave, extra thanks to you for putting this event together.  I had a great time and truly enjoyed seeing some friends and bands that I haven't seen in years.  Brought back some wonderful memories.  But most of all the great turn out to support our friend Dan.  God Bless.”

John Cottos (Robb Roy)

my good friend Dan Drotar.  Thanks for organizing it, Dave!"

Michael Angelo Caruso (CARUSO)

“Over the next few days, I hope to personally thank as many people who participated in or attended the event as possible.  It was wildly successful and Dan loved it.  I really enjoyed myself and I am extremely thankful for the selfless outpouring of love, music, donations, volunteerism and time that everyone contributed to the event on Dan's behalf.  Although Michigan is going through a tough time, I think it's safe to say that Detroit is definitely not poor in the spirit of Thanksgiving.  Let's give thanks this week for Dan Drotar.  We love you, Danny!”

Dave Caruso (CARUSO)

“Great giggin' with the [Caruso] brothers tonight.  Thanks again for inviting me to play again - it was great fun!!”

Allen Liggett (CARUSO)

“Hi Dave, it was a pleasure!  I haven't had any time to go through any of the recordings yet... was out of town for a long weekend.  I'll try to get some rough mixes in and see how they turn out.  It was a fun evening I hope that we can do it again."

Jim Zang (Bass Note Productions)

“Dan seems like he is loved by many!  We should be able to get the DVD in the mail to you this week.  It came out great! Thanks so much for offering to be a reference!”

Kim Gottschalk (Shutterbooth)

“All the bands were amazing. Of course, I was there for one purpose only and I got it - "Princess, let me sing a song for you..."  AHH!  All the Carusos (minus the sax) and it was still amazing.”

Juliette LaMonica

“What a day/night!  It was great to see everyone. Thanks Dave for putting together such a great event for such a worthy and wonderful cause.  I didn't get to actually meet Dan today - although I sang with him on stage (LOL).  I wish him all the health and happiness in the world!  Jay actually made it in time for Robb Roy.  Definitely a night to remember!”

Patti Strilecky Sellier

“Great time last night.  Thanks to all the bands, especially Robb Roy...love you guys!”

Michelle Dobbs Mertic

“What a night to remember! Good friends, good music makes a great time!”

Pamela Renaud Goscinski

“What a great night!  All the bands were great.  I especially loved Robb Roy. They Rocked!   I am definitely biased, of course!  ;)”

Tim Palmer

“Hey Dave - You guys really did a nice job.  I'm feeling the need to listen to some old school Caruso tunes now!  It was nice to see so many familiar faces.  Nice of you to organize this fundraiser.”

Laura Bacella

"Loved your music at Dan Drotar's event!  Was totally unfamiliar w/ your band since I grew up in NY -- but happy to discover you.  Why aren't you guys still playing?"

Francie Reid Frisch

Dave, I really enjoyed seeing you guys again!  For 1 night, I felt like I was 21 yrs old in the same bar, standing in the same spot of that bar watching you guys like I did on so many occasions.  Only difference, I didn't help break the stuff down after the show.  First time I ever saw you guys, (Trenton High 1982 maybe), was when I decided I wanted to be in a band.  Only problem, I didn't play an instrument.  So I learned. And for that I owe you and your brothers a tremendous amount of Thanks!"

Greg Gravlin

“Dave - the evening was filled with Excitement, Love, Beauty, and DETROIT ROCK!!  It was my honor to be a part of THE LOVE that was so abundant for Dan - and the cause!  WHAT AN AMAZING NITE- with the best of peeps!  Big Love Dan!”

Patricia Izzo

“Just wanted to say how wonderful Sunday was and that it was so great to see so many people there for Dan.  You & your brothers did a great job.  Sorry I had to leave b4 you performed, I heard it was fab!”

Debbie Demko

“Special thanks to the organizers of and performers at this event.  It is obvious their timeless friendship and respect for Mr. Drotar.  I attended with friends but I did not have the opportunity to meet Dan.  Had I that opportunity I would have thanked him with both appreciation and sadness -- appreciation for the collection of artists that gathered allowing the site and sound in a wonderful evening, and sadness for his personal trial. What I saw, however, was celebration, and glad to have attended.”

Lisa Szuma

“Dave, I'm a Facebook friend of Dan's.  He was so supportive of me when I was finishing Chemo and I hopefully him when was going through it. I was planning to make it to Dan's party yesterday but I got sidelined with a flu Friday. I didn't think it would've been a good idea to share.  I was wondering: is there anyway I still can contribute to this wonderful cause? I'm really impressed what you guys did for Dan.  It sure says a lot about you guys.  Cheers!”

Kurt Baker

“Hi Dave; thanks to you & such a host of others for a great time at Dan's tribute party. You rocked, we all had fun!  It was a really genuine kind of connection with lots of people through Dan.  Thanks for the tunes & the links to the pics.”

Steve Brown

“THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORT, its what made it successful, fun, and a night to remember.  I did have a Great time, with the Caruso Brothers there, and so many wonderful people, how could I not?”

Carole Newberry

“Dave: You are welcome, I was happy to help. I am glad you had a chance to relax it was apparent that you put in a great deal of time organizing and planning. From all the pictures I have seen everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. I have created an album on my [FaceBook] profile if you want to check them out. And yes I did have fun.”
