Young & Tender

Words and music ©1986, 1987 by Dave Caruso

An image of youth
Shattered on the floor
You're standing in the mirror
But there's no reflection
The glass is cold
And to look is painful
Afraid of what you see
And your heart's reaction

Love is the tie that blinds
And you'll see what you want to see
But if you open up your eyes
You'll see that there's more to being

Young and tender
And you're fighting in the face of surrender
You keep losing track of you
But I'm in there somewhere, too
You're young and tender
And you struggle in the grip of surrender
Growing up is aging you
And the lesson's bitter when you're young and tender

All of your life
You've been in control
Then came seventeen--
Every day a question
An image of youth
Shattered on the floor
You'll find that dancing
Is the only thing that's easy

Love is the tie that blinds
And you'll see what you want to see
But if you open up your eyes
You'll see that there's more to being

Young and tender
And you're fighting in the face of surrender
You keep losing track of you
But I'm in there somewhere, too
You're young and tender
And you're drowning in the sea of surrender
Growing up is aging you
And the lesson's bitter when you're young and tender

Making love is easy
But the loving is hard
And it hurts you sometimes
That's the loneliest part
Don't be afraid (You feel you can't recover)
Dry your tears away (But you always do)
Take one day at a time (You wanna grow up faster)
Take it slow and easy (I will wait for you)
